The Heat Transfer and Multiphase Flow Lab is based in the Mechanical and Engineering Department at Penn State University. Our interests center on the fundamental phenomena in multiphase flows and how they relate to heat transfer, energy sustainability, and the environment. Our aim is realize system-level improvements in real-world technologies and to advance the capabilities of environmental models using knowledge gained from experimental, numerical, and field studies.
We are a multidisciplinary lab group with expertise in
- Experimental characterization using: Infrared (IR) thermography, Particle image velocimetry (PIV), tomographic-PIV, and high-speed visualization
- Oceanographic field measurements
- Electrochemical multiphysics modeling
- Advanced thermal-fluid measurement technique development
